Sea of Stars Marine Institute
Advancing Marine Science Through Discovery and Conservation
About Sea of Stars Marine Institute
Sea of Stars Marine Institute is a nonprofit marine research organization dedicated to exploring, understanding, and protecting the world's oceans through scientific research, conservation, and innovation. Our mission is to advance marine science by conducting field research, documenting marine biodiversity, supporting conservation efforts, and sharing discoveries that improve our understanding of ocean ecosystems. Unlike many organizations focused primarily on education or advocacy, we emphasize hands-on scientific research that generates meaningful data for marine conservation.
Our work spans marine biodiversity surveys, algae and seaweed research, taxonomy, water quality monitoring, ecosystem health assessments, and long-term ecological monitoring. We collaborate with scientists, universities, government agencies, and community partners to contribute valuable insights into ocean health. Our long-term vision includes operating research vessels throughout the Pacific, supporting student researchers, developing innovative marine monitoring techniques, and establishing a permanent marine research facility in Hawaiʻi.
Our Research & Services
Marine Field Research & Scientific Expeditions
Conduct comprehensive field research and scientific expeditions to explore marine ecosystems, document species, and collect critical data on ocean health. Our expeditions combine biodiversity surveys, species documentation, and ecosystem monitoring to advance our understanding of marine environments.
Habitat Monitoring & Conservation Partnerships
Monitor marine habitats and ecosystem health through water quality assessments and long-term ecological monitoring. We partner with conservation organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions to support restoration projects and contribute meaningful data for marine conservation efforts.
Scientific Imaging & Student Mentorship
Provide underwater photography, scientific imaging, and videography services to document marine life and ecosystems. We also offer student mentorship and research opportunities, enabling the next generation of marine scientists to gain hands-on experience in ocean research.
